descurainia sophia is an annual or perennial plant of the family brassicaceae, belonging to the genus descurainia. it is one of the main malignant weeds in winter wheat fields in the huang-huai-hai region. in recent years, due to the continuous and extensive use of acetyl lactate synthase (als) inhibitors such as bensulfuron and difluorosulfonam, the control effect on descurainia sophia has been decreasing year by year. in some areas, descurainia sophia has developed significant resistance, resulting in a serious reduction in wheat yield. therefore, clarifying the mechanism of resistance formation of descurainia sophia to herbicides is of great significance for formulating scientific and reasonable weed control strategies and ensuring the safety of wheat production.
recently, the weed research laboratory of the institute of cereal and oil crops published a paper titled "trp-574 leu mutation and metabolic resistance by cytochrome p450 gene negotiated high resistance to als inhibiting herbicides in descurainia sophia" in the top journal of pesticide biochemistry and physiology in the agricultural and forestry science zone. this study identified the interaction resistance of r1 and r2 populations of descurainia sophia to als inhibitor herbicides such as difluorosulfonate, imidazolium nicotinic acid, and sulfuron. mutations in the als1 gene occurred in r1 and r2, resulting in a conserved tryptophan mutation at position 574 to leucine (trp-574 leu), and functional validation was performed in arabidopsis. by integrating rna seq data, five candidate genes for cytochrome p450 enzymes, including cyp72a15, were identified, elucidating the correlation between the formation of resistance of descurainia sophia to als inhibitor herbicides and als1 target gene mutations and cytochrome p450 mediated metabolic resistance. this study is the second top journal paper published by the laboratory in the field of weed resistance research in 2023, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth research on the application of weed resistance management.
