variety is the core factor affecting the development of dairy industry. the comprehensive application of genome selection technology in dairy cattle breeding can achieve early and accurate selection of young bulls, thus greatly shortening the generation interval and accelerating the genetic progress of the population. at the same time, the accuracy of genome selection can be further improved by adding snp molecular genetic markers of target trait function genes.

recently, a research paper entitled “identification of genetic effects of acadvl and irf6 genes with milk production traits of holstein cattle in china” was jointly published online by dairy cattle research team of institute of cereal and oil crops of haafs and college of animal science and technology of china agricultural university in mdpi genes. based on the transcriptome sequencing results of cow liver tissues at different physiological stages, the study identified acadvl and irf6 genes as candidate functional genes for milk production traits, and detected 16 snps of acadvl and irf6 genes through bioinformatics and gene function enrichment analysis, combined with pcr products direct sequencing of dna pools. the results of individual genotype detection and association analysis between polymorphic loci and milk production traits in 1186 holstein cows in hebei province, china, showed that 16 snps identified in the two genes were significantly or extremely significantly associated with milk production traits, and the haplotype blocks formed by close linkage between snps were also significantly associated with milk production traits, which could be used as genetic markers for cow genome selection.

researcher peng peng of institute of cereal and oil crops of haafs is the first author. researcher wang kun of institute of cereal and oil crops, professor sun dongxiao of china agricultural university, are the corresponding authors.
